Glycation and hormonal decline are two important factors of aging. Their interactions, poorly known to date, are beginning to reveal themselves.
A Japanese study (1) on 57 postmenopausal women on the effects of supplementation with equol (an estrogen naturally metabolized by the body) shows, as expected, a significant improvement in symptoms related to menopause.
More original, we observe that subjects exposed to equol (whether of natural origin or provided) have a better glycation rate than that of the other groups.
This exploratory study lacks elements to establish the direction of the link between the effects of glycation and hormonal decline but confirms that there is indeed an interaction between these two factors of aging.

Resulting from the fixation of sugars on the proteins constituting the organism, glycation generates toxic compounds that cause cellular aging.
