Glycation is directly associated with the risk and aggravating factors of COVID-19.
COVID-19 is often more severe in older people. Besides age, other factors such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and malignancies, which are also associated with aging, are considered to be risk factors for COVID-19.
AGEs generated by the glycation of proteins in the body are directly involved in the genesis of age-related diseases and risk factors of COVID-19 (1).
In addition, AGE receptors, RAGEs, play an essential role in the hyper inflammation associated with severe forms of COVID-19 (2).
The AGEs RAGEs axis appears to have a crucial role in the genesis and aggravation of COVID-19, especially in the elderly.
As a result, molecules that are effective against glycation could be potential drug candidates to treat COVID-19 including its severe form and could also help provide dietary solutions to reduce disease mortality.

Resulting from the fixation of sugars on the proteins constituting the organism, glycation generates toxic compounds that cause cellular aging. Glycation is particularly involved in metabolic disorders, skin aging and cognitive decline.]
