BAD HEALING IN PLASTIC SURGERY AND AESTHETIC MEDICINE: the key role of glycation.

Postoperative complications and poor scarring are the obsession of practitioners in plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine. They can be anticipated by adopting a strategy against glycation.

In an article reviewing the results of 14 scientific studies, Dutch researchers confirmed the role of glycation in the formation of bad scars (1).
In brief, glycation generates shortened collagen fibrils, thinned and disorganized that reduce the elasticity and thickness of the skin and induce scarring with increased contraction and delayed wound closure.
It was observed that patients with a pro-glycant diet, and not just diabetics, had an altered healing process.

This publication also shows that an anti glycation therapeutic strategy significantly improves the quality of healing.

Taking into account the slow responses of traditional antiglycating molecules such as Metformin, prescribing a deglycating supplementation before a plastic or aesthetic intervention is the good practice to adopt.

[Glycation is one of the major causes of aging. Resulting from the fixation of sugars on the proteins constituting the organism, glycation generates toxic compounds that cause cellular aging. Glycation is particularly involved in metabolic disorders, skin aging and cognitive decline.] [AGE BREAKER SKIN HEALTH, patented nutritional supplements, based on rosmarinic acid, recognized around the world by aging specialists for their properties to reverse the effects of glycation.]
