GLYCATION WHAT'S NEW?

ALTERATION OF STEM CELLS: an unexpected effect of glycation?

The tremendous hope generated by regenerative medicine could be restricted by stem cell glycation.

Regenerative medicine based on stem cells is a great way for the future to repair organs and treat a wide range of diseases.

It also raises many hopes to fight against aging by promising to repair the cellular damage that results from it.

These cell reprogramming techniques open up immense possibilities. In 2017, the first repair of a retina by transplant of autologous stem cells was carried out in Japan.

On the other hand, the technical difficulties are enormous, the costs astronomical, the procedures very long and the acceptance by society far from certain.

Among the technical difficulties encountered, it seems that the glycation of stem cells would alter their proliferation and viability. The mechanism in question is the activation of AGE receptors. These observations, made in vitro, are in progress but already 35 studies out of 37 confirm these conclusions according to an article published in 2020 (1).

Improving cell regeneration procedures will probably require controlling the consequences of glycation on stem cells.

[Glycation is one of the major causes of aging. Resulting from the fixation of sugars on the proteins constituting the organism, glycation generates toxic compounds that cause cellular aging. Glycation is particularly involved in metabolic disorders, skin aging and cognitive decline.] [AGE BREAKER, patented nutritional supplements, based on rosmarinic acid, recognized by aging specialists around the world for their properties to reverse the effects of glycation.]
